THE OPOLE WIND INSTRUMENT EXPRESS

The Opole Wind Instrument Express (Opolski Ekspres Dęty, OED) is an innovative initiative, the first of its kind in Poland, created by Przemysław Ślusarczyk, an Opole-based composer, conductor and cultural animator, who invented and developed the idea and brand of the Opole Wind Instrument Express and has been organizing the event since its beginning. The first edition took place in 2010. The Opole Wind Instrument Express is a combination of three elements: cultivating the centuries-old tradition of brass bands as a hallmark of Opole Silesia, presenting the railway from the inside and sightseeing tourism with an emphasis on Opole. Each edition has its own tour,

where the OED stops at selected stations and railway stops for concerts by the el12 Opole Politechnic Band, composed of musicians from the Opole University of Technology Orchestra, the ZSE Brass Band in Opole and the Grudzice Brass Band, under the direction of the event originator. The tour is combined with visits to interesting places or presentations about the railway. In 2019, the OED crew broke the 1936 record set by the Flying Silesian (Latający Ślązak) by 3 minutes on the Wrocław Główny - Opole Główne tour, covering this section in 36 minutes. The event has the following objectives:

promotion of the Opolskie Voivodship,

promotion of culture and alternative cultural activities,

promotion of Opole's public rail transport and tourist rail routes;

revitalization of railways and railway routes in the province,

promotion of regional tourism,

activation of local community. That's why THE ORCHESTRA IS ON TRACK!

In 2013, the Opole University of Technology won an honourable mention in the Competition for the Best Tourist Product OROT Certificate for: “Time for the orchestra – the Opole Wind Instrument Express”, “An Orchestra Tour on the Oder”, “An Orchestra Tour of Castles and Palaces”, for “Consistent and effective promotion of the university and the region through cultural events”.
