BRZEZKA BEER FEAST

Brzeg boasts an exceptionally rich brewing tradition. Since 2014, the Brzeg Beer Feast has been held here on the last weekend of September. The idea was conceived and initiated by Mr Janusz Piotrowicz, owner of the Wozownia Restaurant in Brzeg. He was inspired by the activity of the Brzeg breweries, which have been operating here since the Middle Ages, and he collected many mementos from them to decorate the interior of the restaurant.

Every year, the event begins with the ritual of ceremoniously opening a new beer barrel by hammering in a barrel bung, which is accompanied by the reading of a ceremonial document by a herald assisted by knights. The event features numerous concerts, culinary surprises, a rich artistic programme, the commemoration of key events in Polish history, and shared festive singing.

The dream of the event's organiser is for it to evoke the spirit

of traditional "beer festivals" such as the Bavarian Oktoberfest, Irish St. Patrick's Day or the Australian Beer Festival. Observing the guests feasting at the Wozownia restaurant, he could see their desire to have fun and spend their free time in a cultural way, surrounded by their loved ones and friends. The owner of the Wozownia restaurant dreamed of making this a regular event, not limited to just beer drinking. The historical setting of the event and the opportunity to showcase local music bands and Brzeg talents in various fields became more important to him. Contrary to the name of the event, feasting became a secondary matter.
