BEAUTIFUL WELL IN NYSA

The Beautiful Well in Nysa is one of the city's baroque gems. Commissioned by Mayor Casper Naas and constructed by Wilhelm Helleweg, supervisor of the arsenal and mint in Nysa, in 1686, it was intended to protect the town's water supply from contamination. It is a magnificent example of the craftsmanship of the Nysa blacksmith guild. At its top is a two-headed Habsburg eagle. The grating, weighing 2,600 kg, stands on a basin made of "Silesian marble" from Sławniowice.
