MARSHAL JÓZEF PIŁSUDSKI MONUMENT IN NYSA

The monument to Marshal Józef Piłsudski in Nysa, designed by Prof. Marian Molenda, now adorns the Market Square in Nysa. It was established on the 100th anniversary of Poland regaining independence. The sculpture of the Marshal on "Kasztanka" (chestnut mare) in Nysa was inspired by the first monument to Józef Piłsudski in the Republic of Poland, unveiled in 1935 in Tarnopol. The Nysa sculpture weighs 2.5 tons and measures 3.5 meters; it was cast in bronze and placed on a 4-metre pedestal. It is the largest of all three monuments to Marshal Józef Piłsudski in the Opolskie Voivodeship. Today's monument to Piłsudski in Nysa stands in the place where once, before World War II, there was a monument to Frederick the Great.
