SILESIAN CHAMBER AT THE SCHOOL AND KINDERGARTEN COMPLEX IN OTMICE

The chamber was established as a result of an exhibition of everyday items organised during Polish language lessons between 1989 and 1996, as well as a local campaign entitled "Collecting old things". The culmination of this action was the grand opening of the Silesian Chamber in 1997.

An exhibition called "From grain to loaf" was created together with local history enthusiast Krzysztof Ralla. It shows the long journey that grain must take before

it is baked into a loaf of bread (sowing, harvesting and then grinding the grain into flour, making dough from flour, water and salt, and finally, baking).

Thanks to the commitment of the locals, it is now possible to see what a typical Silesian home used to look like. There are numerous exhibits once used by former residents, such as an old coal stove, a kitchen cupboard, a carved closet, a chest of drawers with a huge mirror. On the bed you will find beautifully embroidered linens, with an old, charming child's cradle right next to it. Hand-embroidered and starched curtains hang in the windows.

You can also see dishes and items of everyday use: old pre-World War II tableware, porcelain and ceramic spice containers, a coffee grinder, mortar, kitchen scale, box iron, baby and doll carts, charming Silesian costumes, paintings. Among the exhibits, old documents and photographs are particularly noteworthy, as they show us how the former inhabitants dressed, what they did for a living, and what their lives were like.
