OLESNO REGIONAL MUSEUM IN OLESNO

The traditions of the museum in Olesno date back to pre-World War II times, when, at the turn of the 1920s and 1930s, an attempt was made to establish the first museum institution. However, it was not until World War II, in 1942, that an exhibition on the Olesno region was organised in what was then the Regional House (Heimathaus). It was to form the basis for the establishment of a real museum. Unfortunately, in 1945, many valuable artefacts and regional historical source materials were destroyed and looted by the Red Army as it entered the town. Better times for regional museology arrived in the second half of the 1950s and early 1960s, when, under the patronage of the Opole Silesia Museum in Opole, several regional branches were established, including a branch in Olesno. The official opening of the facility took place in 1960. Following several changes of location, in 2004 the museum moved to its present location on Jaronia Street – a historic 18th-century tenement house. The renovated interiors house a permanent exhibition on the history of the town and the Olesno region, covering various topics. Today, apart from its permanent exhibition, the Olesno Regional Museum also offers various temporary exhibitions and conducts educational activities in the region. The museum also houses a certified tourist information point, which is open during the museum's opening hours. Undoubtedly, the Olesno Regional Museum is a must-see when visiting Olesno.
