PRUDNIK REGION MUSEUM IN PRUDNIK

The Prudnik Region Museum was established in 1959 as a branch of the Opole Silesia Museum, and since 1968 it has been operating independently as a cultural institution of the Prudnik Municipality. It comprises the Arsenal – the museum's main headquarters located at ul. Bolesława Chrobrego 5, the Weaving Tradition Centre – a branch of the museum at ul. Królowej Jadwigi 23, and the Wok Tower at Plac Zamkowy (Castle Square).

The arsenal is located in a building adjacent to the 15th-century city walls and two towers, where weapons were stored in the Middle Ages. Later, these historic buildings served as the town prison. In the 19th century, the larger tower was converted into a water tower supplying the municipal waterworks, and

in the interwar period, the buildings of today's museum served as a youth hostel. Currently, the Arsenal houses archaeology, ethnography, local history and art collections, which are part of permanent exhibitions devoted to things like the history of the town of Prudnik, the Gallery under Two Towers, and a sports exhibition dedicated to Stanisław Szozda. The corner tower houses an exhibition of military artefacts, including numerous armaments from the Napoleonic Wars. In the archaeological section, particular attention should be paid to the casting moulds for bronze tools and ornaments dating back to the Lusatian culture period. The extensive Ethnographic Department collects folk costumes, household items used in the subregion, and tools related to flax processing and weaving. The museum also features a permanent painting exhibition by renowned Polish artist Hanna Bakuła. In 2001-2003, the facility was renovated, and the old third wing and glass-roofed courtyard were also rebuilt, providing excellent conditions for various exhibitions and events.
