CENTRAL MUSEUM OF PRISONERS-OF-WAR IN OPOLE AND ŁAMBINOWICE

A museum dedicated to the multifaceted history of Łambinowice (known as Lamsdorf until 1945), which is linked to the German prisoner-of-war and repatriation camps that operated there. Since 2002, the site has the status of a National Memorial. The permanent exhibition consists of 5 exhibitions dedicated to the camps that were here between 1870 and 1946. During this period, the following facilities operated in Łambinowice: during the Franco-Prussian War of 1870–1871 and World War I - a prisoner-of-war camp; in the interwar period - a camp for Germans expelled from the lands that became part of Poland after the Silesia Plebiscite; during World War II

- prisoner-of-war camps; in 1945–1946 - resettlement camp/labour camp for Silesians awaiting resettlement deep into Germany. In addition to the exhibition, the museum includes camp grounds, mass graves and cemeteries: a prisoner-of-war cemetery from World War I and a cemetery for German victims of a labour camp, who were awaiting resettlement in 1945–1946.
