MURÓW

Murów is situated around 25 km north of Opole. The name of the village appears as early as 1304. Later, Murów, like many other towns and villages, was struck by an epidemic of the plague which wreaked havoc among the local population. Some researchers attributed the name of the village to the Old Polish term for the plague - "mór". The first half of the 18th century saw a renewed revival and development of Murów, thanks to the establishment of an ironworks here. Today, the village is the seat of the Murów municipality. Its natural assets, in the setting of forests, attract many enthusiasts of hiking and biking journeys, while the calm, exceptionally picturesque Budkowiczanka River that flows here is a perfect choice for active tourists seeking water adventures in a canoe. Connoisseurs of history and archaeology cannot miss the remains of a medieval conical hillfort that can be found in Murów, in the Budkowiczanka River valley. Also worth seeing in the village are the distinctive railroad station building and the railroad water tower that stands next to it. A few years ago, special signs with the words "Please slow down. Badger" and a picture of that predator were put up on the roads entering the village . Media from all over the country covered the badger story, flocking to Murów. In this way, the municipality wanted to help those animals survive - in the evening and at night, badgers run across busy roads in the area in large numbers. Thus, the badgers that moved into the clean, woody, and humid environs of Murów became its symbol.

It is worth adding that the product under the name "Monuments, Nature, the Badger Sign - This Is How the Murów Municipality Conquers the World" received a distinction in the Competition for the Best Tourism Product of the Opole Voivodeship - OROT Certificate 2013.
