IZBICKO

Izbicko is situated in the Srzelce County, near Opole and Strzelce Opolskie, on the main route between those two cities. The locality is the seat and centre of the municipality, one of the smallest yet picturesque municipalities in the Opole Voivodeship. The municipality's and the village's real natural wealth are the surrounding forests which cover almost 1/3 of the Izbicko municipality's area. The old-growth oak forest growing near the local fishpond complex is an interesting element of the natural landscape. The numerous forest paths and the revitalised area by the pond in Izbicko are a perfect recreation spot and attract those who enjoy family bicycle touring and hiking and recreation. Izbicko is also home to a historic palace and park complex which today serves as accommodation and restaurant, as well as the Church of St. John the Baptist from the early 20th century. It is interesting to note that between Izbicko, Nakło, and Otmice, there was a Luftwaffe airfield built in the late 1930s. It was units from, among others, the local Stubendorf airfield that took part in the attack on Poland on 1st September 1939, including in the start of World War II, in the bombing of Wieluń. Small remnants of the Stubendorf airfield remain here to this day.
