TURAWA

The origins of the village are not known. According to legend, the rich in game (e.g. in aurochs ["tury"] - hence the name) forests surrounding the present-day Turawa were a hunting destination for the princes of Opole who decided to build a "hunting castle" here. The village, situated within the Stobrawa-Turawa Forests Nature Park, surrounded by woods and attractive bodies of water, is the tourist and recreational centre of the Opole region. Today, the lakes located here, created as a result of the construction of a dam on the Mała Panew River, are well-known and well-liked bathing spots visited in season by hundreds of tourists. The environs of Turawa are also a paradise for anglers and for nature lovers, especially birdwatchers.
