CHRZĄSTOWICE

Chrząstowice is a village situated in the Opole County, close to the voivodeship's capital, on the way from Opole to Ozimek. Chrząstowice is currently the seat of the municipality. The founding of Chrząstowice probably took place already in the first half of the 13th century, but the oldest mentions come from 1259. Overlooking the place is the tower of the Neo-Gothic parish Church of the Immaculate Heart of the Blessed Virgin Mary. The many green areas in the Chrząstkowice municipality provide unlimited opportunities for rest and recreation in the open air, especially on a bicycle, riding along the numerous paths. Not everyone knows that Chrząstkowice is the place of birth of one of the medalists of the 1972 Olympics in Munich - Benedykt Kocot, who, in the tandem with Andrzej Bek, won the bronze medal. Another distinguished athlete linked to the Chrząstowice municipality was Joachim Halupczok, a Polish road racer, silver medalist in Seoul in 1988. It is worth visiting the nearby Niwki, where you can find a statue of this athlete whose sports career unfortunately came to an end all too soon. In the area, the Srebrne Źródła ("Silver Springs") nature reserve and the Falmirowickie Kamionki midforest lakelet are also worth seeing. In the village, in a green square by the railroad crossing, there is a huge "kroszonka" - that is a traditional Easter egg characteristic of Upper Silesia - decorated with an Opole pattern
