POPIELÓW
Popielów is situated northwest of Opole, it is in the Opole County and is the seat of the municipal authorities. In terms of population, it is its largest locality. The name of the locality in the Old Polish, Latinised form "Popelow" appeared in one of the documents, issued in Wrocław, already in 1343. Over the years, the name was Germanised, without preserving its original meaning deriving from the word "ash" ("popiół"), as Heinrich August Adamy, a German populariser of Silesian geography and history, reports in 1888.
Currently, the village is the centre of cultural life for the residents and an excellent place to embark on an adventure and explore the surrounding nature. In Popielów, you can find an interesting wooden historic cemetery church with partially original preserved furnishings. Other picturesque villages in the municipality are also worth visiting, including Kurznie, Karłowice with its medieval castle, Stare Siołkowice with a church by Schinkel, and Nowe Siołkowice with the modern "Przystań Wodna" bathing beach surrounded by nature.
