STRZELCE OPOLSKIE

Strzelce Opolskie is a beautiful, historic town located in the Opole Voivodeship, 30 km southeast of Opole. Not far from here, is St. Anne's Mountain, a popular pilgrimage site.

The origins of Strzelce date back to the Middle Ages. The name of the settlement, and later the town,

derives from the shooters ("strzelcy") – princely hunters who organized hunts in the area. This is commemorated by a monument to the shooter ("Strzelec") standing in front of the town hall in Strzelce Opolskie's Market Square.

Among the greatest historical monuments in Strzelce Opolskie are:

the ruins of the medieval castle of the Piast princes from the 14th century, with a historical castle gate and a park with valuable old trees, which hosts numerous town events. Revitalization of the castle is currently planned;

the Market Square – the town's central square with the impressive 19th-century Town Hall and a 16th-century tower;

the Church of St. Lawrence, located at Kołłątaja 9 - parish church with a tower from the 15th century, which today serves as a bell tower;

Preserved fragments of medieval defensive walls from the 15th century.
