OTMUCHÓW CASTLE

Towering over Otmuchów, a town often hailed as the ‘flower capital’ of the Opole region, stands a Gothic-Renaissance castle with a history reaching back to the 12th century.

Of the original castle of the Bishops of Wrocław, only the north-eastern wing has survived to the present day. The site is famous for its unique ‘Horse Stairs’, but visitors can also view medieval features such as a trapdoor, a starvation cell, a well, and concealed chambers. The castle currently houses the ‘Zamek’ Cultural Centre, offering a wide range of leisure, tourism, and conference services. A visit to the garden on the castle hill, established by the renowned German naturalist Alexander von Humboldt, is also highly recommended.
