CHURCH OF IN OLEŚNO

The history of the Corpus Christi Church in Oleśno is closely linked to an earlier wooden church dedicated to the Body of Christ, built on this site in the 15th century. However, the current Neo-Baroque architectural form dates from 1913. Due to the city's growing population at the turn of the 20th century, there was need for a new church, so, on the initiative of the local rector Fr. Bruno Alexander, in 1909 the building began. The monumental and harmonious building on a Latin cross plan features extremely richly decorated interiors. The high altar from 1913 features an oil painting depicting the Last Supper and is completed by two sculptures: of St. Roch with a dog at his feet to the left, and of St. John of Nepomuk with a cross in his hand to the right. Flanking the altar are two more wooden figures: of St. Augustine and of St. John the Evangelist. Also worth noting are the side altars from 1914, dedicated to Our Lady of the Rosary and St. Joseph. If you look up, you can see the plafond ceiling paintings with numerous biblical scenes and motifs. Moreover, the interior features beautiful stained glass windows with images of saints and a richly decorated pulpit with a canopy, at the top of which is a sculpture of the Queen Mary and Child.
