WIĘKSZYCE-POLSKA CEREKIEW RAILWAY ROUTE

The 16-kilometre path was built on a disused railway track. It is the longest cycling path in the Opole region, connecting three municipalities: Reńska Wieś, Cisek and Polska Cerekiew. The path begins on the border between Większyce and Koźle, at the former railway crossing, and passes through Reńska Wieś, Długomiłowice, Sukowice, Zakrzów, and ends in Polska Cerekiew. The cycling path follows an old railway track. Railway line No. 195 was opened in 1898 and served passenger traffic between Koźle and Baborów. It was decommissioned after the 1997 flood due to massive damage to the railway infrastructure. Taking this picturesque route, you can see old, disused railway stations (some of which are truly charming), the remains of railway ramps, flagmen's houses and the site of one of the biggest pre-war railway disasters (Sukowice). The route runs through villages and rolling fields, creating a truly idyllic picture.

The path along its entire length is asphalt and is also marked and illuminated. Small infrastructure elements have also been provided. Car parks, benches, shelters with tables and benches, cycle racks, litter bins, outdoor gyms and fitness playgrounds were built. Self-service bicycle repair stations have been set up in three locations (Reńska Wieś, Sukowice, Jaborowice).

The safe path attracts an increasing number of cyclists, pedestrians and roller skaters. According to many cyclists, it is one of the most interesting cycling trails in the entire Opole Voivodeship.

In 2021, the "Railway Route" cycling path received an honourable mention in the Competition for the Best Tourist Product of the Opolskie Voivodeship – OROT Certificate.
