Since 2003 the Opole Silesia Regional Tourist Organisation (OROT) has been promoting the Opolskie Voivodeship, encouraging everyone to get to know its assets and value as a tourist-friendly region. OROT is one of the earliest-established regional tourist organisations in this country and inspires great confidence among the entities and institutions of the Opolskie Voivodeship, which has contributed to its having as many as 100 members.
The Organisation was established to create a positive and attractive image for the Voivodeship on domestic and foreign tourist markets, to prepare and develop activities for the promotion and growth of tourism in the Opolskie Voivodeship, to initiate and create social and economic activities in tourism, to integrate the communes and districts of the Opolskie Voivodeship in the sphere of tourism, to coordinate all operations fostering tourism, to improve human resources, and to run and coordinate a tourist information system in the Voivodeship.
The measures used to implement OROT’s statutory objectives include participation in trade-fair promotional events in this country and abroad; publications and competitions promoting the tourist values of Opole Silesia; improving the tourist human resources by organising training; the organisation of study tours and press study tours (e.g. for groups from Belgium, the Czech Republic, Finland, Japan, Germany, Russia and Hungary); the preparation of strategic documents regarding the development of tourism and Voivodeship promotion.
Each year, at a number of fairs, OROT organises exhibition stands, handing out at least several dozen thousand copies a year of the promotional materials published by the Organisation and its members. We are effective in procuring external funds for our own operations, which gives us greater strength to promote the tourist attractions of Opole Silesia. Most importantly, we meet the demands of tourists through projects such as the establishment of the Opole Silesia Tourist Information Centre (a regional tourist information point) along with the largest tourist information website in the Opolskie Voivodeship, www.visitopolskie.pl, which is continuously being developed and modernised, and, according to the statistics, is getting more popular with each day, both in Poland and abroad.
EU funds support the rapid development of OROT, which can work with an even greater intensity for the benefit of the Opolskie Voivodeship. It is carrying out a number of projects, which are resulting in more efficient and professional services provided by the Voivodeship’s tourist sector. Thanks to our effort and the implemented projects we have supplied infokiosks to 8 cities in the Opolskie Voivodeship in 2008, and in 2012 we provided another 5 with modern and professional equipment. We have organised two courses for tour guides in the Opolskie Voivodeship, which have been completed by a total of 118 people.
OROT has also conducted training sessions for entrepreneurs operating in the tourist sector, non-governmental institutions and local government units – and a total of 1,100 people have been trained. What’s more, we have organised training sessions and workshops retraining unemployed individuals to work in tourism. Thanks to the Polish-Czech cooperation and the implementation of joint projects, OROT is promoting the Opolskie Voivodeship internationally. We held the “Polish-Czech Days” during the International Tourism Fair in Opole, and jointly with our partners from the Czech Republic we promoted the architectural gems of the Opolskie Voivodeship, and its military monuments and water tourism.
The Polish-Czech cooperation and EU funds made it possible for us in 2012 to carry out the first reliable study of the tourist traffic in the Opolskie Voivodeship and the Moravian-Silesian Region. We also established a tourism cluster for Opolskie – “VisitOpolskie”. OROT is the first organisation on the Opole Silesia market to have promoted the accommodation provided in the Region. Through the “VisitOpolskie” tourist product catalogue, OROT provided travel agencies in Poland and abroad with a ready-made solution, which will help them organise tours to the Opolskie Voivodeship. Moreover, since 2012 the Tour Guides and Tour Leaders Association has been active within OROT.
The combined measures being carried out by OROT are intended to serve the promotion and wider understanding of the attractiveness and cultural, natural and landscape richness of Opole Silesia.
